Long-Fibered Sphagnum Moss

Mosser Lee's Long-Fibered Sphagnum Moss is your organic answer to many gardening and indoor floral projects.

Long-Fibered Sphagnum Moss is not peat moss, but rather a perennial plant that grows wild in the Central Wisconsin sphagnum bogs. Mosser Lee's sphagnum is a renewable resource growing back in the same bogs every 5-7 years, so using Mosser Lee's long-fibered sphagnum does not destroy our precious wet lands.

Early Native Americans used the natural long-fibered sphagnum plant in every day life, including wound dressing, bedding and baby diapers. Because of the unique properties of lonf-fibered sphagnum moss to both absorb and hold 20 times its weight in water and repel bacteria, long-fibered sphagnum moss has been heralded by horticulturists as the best solution to several basic gardening problems.

Every year new long-fibered sphagnum moss uses are discovered. Current uses include:

  • Lining hanging baskets
  • Lining window boxes (as demonstrated on Oprah)
  • Air-layer propagation of growing mature trees from the branches of parent trees
  • Seed starting while preventing the killer disease “damping-off”
  • Living wreaths
  • Root bulbs and cuttings
  • Wrap around roots when transporting and transplanting plants and trees
  • Topiary medium (as used in Walt Disney World)
  • Soil cover on indoor potted plants and planters to retain moisture in the soil
  • Bedding material for worms and reptiles
  • Hydroponics gardens
  • Soiless gardening where dirt is not an option
  • Orchid propagation
  • Many, many more…..

Mosser Lee's long-fibered sphagnum moss is available in five sizes: 100 cubic inch, 432 cubic inch, 2 bushel sack, 2 cubic foot bale and a 3 1/2 cubic foot bale.
