Hi! I'm Mosser Lee's Long-Fibered Sphagnum Moss.
Many people often confuse me with my Uncle Peat, who shares my name. Uncle Peat is much older than I am. As a matter of fact, he has been dead for centuries and centuries. I'm a live perennial and actually grow wild in the bogs in Central Wisconsin.
I can absorb and retain up to 20 times my weight in water. That's twice as much as a sponge! I am also so clean that bacteria and other little creatures, harmful to plants, can't live in me.
Because of my unique qualities, many people use me to line hanging baskets, to mix with soil, to root bulbs and cuttings, to airlayer plants and to keep roots moist and cool when transplanting. Interior landscapers like me so much that they decorate the top soil or large potted trees with my long strands. Not only do I look good, but I help retain the moisture in the soil.
I'm so proud of what I can do for the home gardener that I am available in six sizes: 100 cubic inch, 224 cubic inch, 432 cubic inch, 2 bushel sack, 2 cubic foot bale and a 3 1/2 cubic foot bale.
I have many useful purposes, unlike my Uncle Peat, he's dead!
