What is Radon?
Radon is a silent killer that causes lung cancer. It could be residing in your home or apartment building without warning. It is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and radioactive gas, occurring naturally underground. The United States Environmental Protection Agency considers radon a major health hazard due to its radioactivity and inability to detect it without testing.
Radon is the second most frequent cause of lung cancer, responsible for over 20,000 deaths each year. Radon is the primary cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.
Is Radon Gas in my home?
Radon has been detected in every state and in many countries. Radon typically moves up through the ground, seeping into homes through openings in walls, drains, sinks, foundations and floors, accumulating in basements and crawl spaces. New and old homes or apartment buildings may have a radon problem, even homes without basements. The EPA recommends testing all occupied residences.
How does the radon detection test work?
Radon OK™ Detection Kit is a proven short-term testing method that provides residents with a quick assessment of a dwelling’s radon level. The test is easy. Simply remove the detection packet from its plastic sleeve, place it in your test area for 2-4 days, fill out the information form, place the coded test number on the packet and send the form, the packet and lab fee to the lab in the envelope provided.
How long before I receive the laboratory results?
Laboratory analysis reports provide information about radon gas and interprets the amount of radon found in your sample in accordance to state and EPA requirements. It also indicates certain remediation advice for each level of radon. Our partner lab is Alpha Energy Laboratories, one of the most experienced certified radon measurement organizations in the U.S., guarantees results in 5-7 days after receipt of your sample. By providing email and text information you can tract your sample through the lab process. Test results are emailed to you. 24-hour express service is also available for an additional charge.
How much is the laboratory fee?
Lab services are not included in our kit purchase price; however, we have negotiated a special lab fee for LabTech Radon OK™ Detection Kit customers. Alpha Energy laboratories fees are economically priced at only $15 per sample; other labs charge as much as $40 per!
