What is Spanish Moss?
Spanish moss was named by a combination of the names used by Spanish and French explorers. Over the years it got it’s name from the original “Spanish Beard” name.
Spanish moss is an epiphytic flowering plant belonging to the Tillandsia genus of bromeliads (air plants) that often grows upon large trees in tropical and subtropical climates. Without roots, it absorbs nutrients and water through its own leaves from the air and rainfall. It clings to tree branches but rarely kills them. When harvested, the moss is alive and sometimes contains pests.
We make sure that our Mosses are Safe and Clean
We take extra care to make sure that our Spanish Moss is safe and clean. Our harvesting process includes several special steps not normally followed by many other harvesters, just to assure you that our Spanish Moss does not contain any foreign matter or unwanted pests. Our Spanish Moss has been dried to our exact quality standards, which allows you to enjoy years of continued use and enjoyment.
How to Use Spanish Moss
Historically, this moss variety was used for stuffing material in furniture, seats, mattresses, and even insulation in homes. Today, it is primarily used in horticulture as a soil cover and in decorations. The attractive grey Spanish moss strands easily pull apart and expand to meet any pot size. The strands don’t interfere with watering and fertilizing your plants. Professionals use Mosser Lee’s Spanish Moss for:
- Soil cover in an indoor pot to cover the drab appearance of the soil. It adds the finishing touch to any potted plant.
- Hanging basket liner
- Terrariums
- Dish Gardens
- Artificial arrangements
- Wreaths
- Crafts
- Many, many more….
